Evictions are scheduled to resume on July 25, and we face a massive wave of evictions. The Maryland Multi-Housing Association just reported that over 30% of tenants were unable to pay the rent for June 2020 with even higher delinquency rates in family-size, affordable units.
We need rent relief now! Please sign onto this letter to Gov. Hogan no later than 12:00 pm on June 24 as an individual or as an organization.
At the very least, Gov. Hogan should expand and extend the eviction moratorium and allocate a significant part of Maryland’s $1.3 billion in federal funds to emergency rental assistance and eviction prevention. We will deliver the letter to Gov. Hogan on June 25 – which is 30 days from the scheduled start of evictions and the incredible affront to human dignity, public health and economic recovery that evictions will bring. If you have questions, please contact Mary Bradford at Beyond the Boundaries or Carolina Paul at the Public Justice Center. And please share the letter!
