PJC Attorney Wendy Hess Speaks on Panel at JHU School of Public Health

On April 21, 2010, Wendy Hess was a panelist at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health Forum on Correctional Health. She was joined by Adrian Muldrow-Bey, former inmate, Inmate Council President at the Baltimore City Detention Center and founder of Divine Minds Management, LLC; Jacqueline Robarge, Director at Power Inside; and Dr. Jason Farley, Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. The panelists provided information about the health-related concerns and problems with access to care that pretrial detainees experience and addressed attendees about the importance of university involvement in correctional health care. Specifically, the panel encouraged students and faculty to consider conducting research in this area. Approximately 50 people were in attendance and there was a high degree of interest in the topic. The Forum was organized by Shahed Alam, long-time volunteer for the PJC and JHU Master's program public health student. Shahed was able to work with the PJC on this issue thanks to the JHU SOURCE (Student Outreach Resource Center) practicum placement program.
