Murphy Anderson and Public Justice Center team up for big victory for workers

June 4, 2014: Big change is possible when private law firms join the Public Justice Center in advocating for low-wage workers. Two years ago, Murphy Anderson attorneys Mark Hanna, Joni Jacobs and Renee Gerni signed on as PJC's co-counsel in a class action lawsuit that recently won for hundreds of asbestos-abatement workers reimbursement for the trainings and protective equipment that they had been forced to pay for. Equally important, the employer agreed to significant injunctive relief, including agreeing to compensate employees for time spent in required asbestos abatement trainings, providing trainings and protective equipment at no cost, and agreeing to a grievance procedure for any future violations.

As we close out the case, we extend a heartfelt thank you to Mark, Joni and Renee for working with us and for donating a portion of their attorney’s fees as part of the PJC’s Litigation Partnership. Their combined gift of professional and financial support not only makes a difference to the workers in this case, but will enable us to continue advocating for workers in the courts.
