Paid sick days in the State of the Union

January 20, 2015:  Did you hear the news? Tonight the campaign for paid sick days got another boost when President Barack Obama highlighted the need for this policy in the State of the Union. The Maryland campaign even got special recognition – one of our bill sponsors, State Senator Catherine Pugh, was a guest of First Lady Michelle Obama, and was accompanied by Melissa Broome, of our Working Matters coalition.

The momentum to expand paid sick days to more Maryland workers is growing. Last night, the Healthy Working Families Act, SB 40, was introduced in the Maryland General Assembly. Senator Pugh is joined in sponsoring this bill by Delegate Luke Clippinger.

The time is ripe and you can help keep the momentum going by asking your state legislators to support the Healthy Working Families Act. Click here for your legislators’ contact information. Tell them that working families shouldn't have to choose between their jobs and their health.

Thank you for being a part of this important effort!
