Maryland Tenants and Foreclosure Conference

On December 17, 2009, a Maryland Tenants in Foreclosure Conference will be held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, 502 S Sharp St., Baltimore, MD 21201. The conference will begin at 10:00am and last until approximately 3:00 pm. Lunch will be provided. There is no charge to attend this conference.

Seating is limited. All attendees must RSVP to Tanisha Carpenter at the Public Justice Center, carpentert@publicjustice.org . Please include your name, organization, whether you are an attorney, and whether you require a vegetarian lunch option.
Approximately 30-40% of all residential foreclosures directly affect tenants.

On May 20, 2009, Congress passed the Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act (PTFA), which provides in most cases that a tenant’s lease survives foreclosure and that a month-to-month tenant must be given 90 days notice to vacate. The escalating number of foreclosures in Maryland and PTFA’s radical change to Maryland foreclosure law has significant implications for renters throughout Maryland. The upcoming TIF Conference will feature national and state experts in housing and foreclosure law. Attendees will learn how PTFA protections apply in Maryland and discuss various advocacy strategies that ensure renters’ rights are protected.
Attorneys, service providers, housing counselors and other advocates are welcome.

The MD TIF Conference is sponsored by the Baltimore Homeownership Preservation Coalition, Rental Housing Coalition, and The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.
