Workers may miss out on important workplace protections – like minimum wage, guaranteed sick and safe leave, and unemployment and workers’ compensation benefits – when their employers misclassify them. Misclassification happens when an employer falsely classifies its workers as independent contractors rather than employees. It is one of the most common forms of wage theft. The Public Justice Center’s Workplace Justice Project has a long history of fighting misclassification through both legislation and litigation. Join us on November 18 to learn about the ways employers take advantage of misclassified workers and our strategies to fight back.
