At a time when civil rights enforcement in education — and the existence of public education itself — is under attack at the federal level, advocates are standing in the gap at the state and local levels to ensure that students have equitable access to school. The Public Justice Center’s Education Stability Project uses outreach, education, individual legal representation, and systemic advocacy to combat the overuse of practices like suspension, expulsion, and school-based arrest that disproportionately target Black and brown students and students with disabilities, and push them out of school. Hear from the Education Stability team about the state of school pushout in Maryland in 2025, critical current issues in school discipline, and our strategies to advance systemic solutions.
